How to register for IELTS

What documents do you need to book your IELTS test with?

You need a valid identification document. Make sure you have your passport or national ID card. Also, Swiss Exams, on behalf of British Council, canonly accept Swiss or EU citizens ID cards. You will need to upload a clear photocopy of your ID card when you book your IELTS test.

Please note that candidates under 18 years of age must be registered in the system by a parent or guardian. The parent/guardian must use their own e-mail address to create the account for the child’s registration.

For your IELTS exam registration you also need a bank card. You can pay for your test through our online registration system (by Mastercard/Visa or PayPal).

Once you have made the payment, please keep the payment receipt in case there are any issues with the transaction.

How to book IELTS test?

1. Choose the exam type

You can choose from IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. In a nutshell these two main types differ:

• take IELTS Academic test if you want to study or join a professional organisation anywhere in the world
• take IELTS General Training if you want to study at below degree level or if you want to work anywhere in the world.

2. Find an IELTS exam location

We run IELTS English tests all throughout Switzerland. You can pick from locations such as Basel, Berne, Geneva, Lausanne, St. Gallen or Winterthur.

3. Choose the date and book your IELTS test

Book your exam by choosing the test date that works for you. Swiss Exams offers you many options here. You can select the requested date month or look at all dates.

4. The confirmation email from Swiss Exams Customer Service

Once you book your IELTS test we verify your registration and your documents and send you the invoice.

As soon as you have completed the registration process (including the test payment), you will receive a confirmation email from us. You will be given the following information:

• the start time of your IELTS exam and the venue address
• your Speaking Test date
• your access to the free online preparation courses: Road to IELTS Last Minute version.

Test Taker Portal

You will be given access to the Test Taker Portal, where you see all the information relating to your IELTS test. After the IELTS test, you will also find your results in this portal. All candidates can view their results online in their accounts 3-5 days after the test.

From the Test Taker Portal you can order up to five additional copies of Test Report Forms (TRFs) free of charge. You can do this at any time from when you book your test to two years after your test date.
