What is IELTS for and what can you do with IELTS?
IELTS is the high-stakes English test for study, migration or work
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as a language of communication. It uses a nine-band scale to clearly identify levels of proficiency, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).
Why IELTS?
- Accepted worldwide by more than 10'000 organisations in Switzerland, USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and other European countries.
- Evaluates your level objectively, regardless of how or where you learned English.
- The speaking part is a realistic, interactive conversation with a live examiner that shows your real-life communication skills.
- More than 3 million candidates worldwide took the test last year.
IELTS is available in the following formats
IELTS Academic - for people applying for higher education or professional registration
IELTS General Training for those migrating to Australia, Canada and the UK, or applying for secondary education, training programmes and work experience in an English-speaking environment.
Both versions provide a valid and accurate assessment of the four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Learn more about the differences between the two types.
